The McAllister Park Butterfly & Botanical Garden is a volunteer-led project by Friends of McAllister Park, made possible through funding from the City of San Antonio Office of Sustainability's SA Climate Ready Community Action Fund, former Councilman John Courage's District 9 Participatory Budget, and the Native Plant Society of Texas' Bring Back the Monarchs to Texas grant.

Pollinators are essential to a healthy environment: an estimated 85% of the world's flowering plants depend on them. Yet pollinator populations are in steep decline, with more than 1 in 4 native bee species at risk and monarch butterfly numbers down by as much as 80%.

The McAllister Park Pollinator Garden helps reverse that decline. By removing invasive species and restoring a 30' x 40' area with native, deer-fenced plants, the garden provides food, nectar, and habitat for butterflies, bees, and other pollinators and wildlife. Friends of McAllister Park is proud to restore biodiversity and strengthen the park's ecosystem, while offering visitors a natural sanctuary to refresh their spirit among the native beauty of Texas plants and wildlife.
