Friends,
The mission of FOMP is to encourage the preservation of McAllister Park and to serve as a central voice on issues that could impact it.
We recently learned that the Zoning Commission approved a rezoning request to allow for the development of a crematorium at 13900 Jones Maltsberger Rd., however the city has not voted on. The City Council will vote on August 21st, 2025. The lot sits along Lorence Creek, adjacent to McAllister Park and Tommy John’s restaurant.
Members of the community have raised concerns about how this development could affect the park and surrounding areas. In response, Councilman Marc Whyte (District 10) and Councilwoman Misty Spears (District 9) will host a public Town Hall meeting tonight at 6:30 PM to discuss the issue.
Given the significance of this matter, we have canceled tonight’s FOMP meeting and popsicle social. If you had planned to join us, we encourage you to attend the Town Hall instead. The FOMP board will be in attendance and we hope to see you there. Wear your FOMP t-shirts to show your support and commitment to McAllister Park.
